Sustainability

Kaitiakitanga

This embraces the guardianship of the whenua/land.

We therefore operate with care of the planet at the heart of our services.

We are very proud of our recycling processes operating within our business.

A substantial amount of money is spent on bio-degradable and compostable products and collection of our recyclable materials.

All food is collected in the Kai to compost bins.

We have 99% commercially compostable disposable products.

We recycle our Oil, Plastics, Glass and all Food Waste.

Kai to Compost

We're proud to be part of Kai to Compost –
a food waste collection service designed for environmentally-conscious businesses in Wellington.

All our organic food waste is placed in dedicated bins and collected daily. It’s then delivered to Wellington City Council’s commercial composting facility, where it’s mixed with green waste and turned into nutrient-rich compost for local use.

We also dispose of Council-approved compostable items such as:
– Unbleached serviettes
– Biodegradable card or bamboo containers
– Paper towels

Every little bit helps us close the loop – from kai to compost.

Closing the Loop

We’re committed to sustainability – and that includes what our food is served in.

Our main supplier for disposable packaging is Innocent Packaging, who specialise in plant-based, compostable products.

But not all compostable packaging can go into every compost bin. Different cities have different rules, and unfortunately, even biodegradable items can cause problems if they’re not disposed of correctly.

That means:

They don’t belong in your general waste

They don’t belong in your recycling bin

They do belong in a commercial compost facility

That’s why Innocent Packaging have set up their own collection system, making sure their products are taken to the right place and properly composted.

We’re proud to be part of this circular system – doing our bit to close the loop.
